Andrea Diamond, CNM
I was first drawn to the idea of becoming a midwife in my mid-twenties when I began exploring Eastern and Western healing modalities through my work as a licensed massage therapist, and yoga instructor. In 2002 I decided the time was right for me to pursue midwifery, as I consistently felt my passion growing stronger over the years. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY Downstate in 2004, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I continued my studies at SUNY Downstate and received my Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery in 2007.
While homebirth was always my ultimate destination, I first wanted to absorb as much knowledge and experience as I could from a group practice. After a brief stint as a staff midwife in a hospital, I accepted a position at the Brooklyn Birthing Center, where I’ve delivered hundreds of babies in a home-like environment. It was there that I gained experience with waterbirths, and have been blessed to work with many remarkable women and their families who chose to return to me for their subsequent pregnancies.
I am continually seeking to further my academic, clinical and intuitive knowledge and wisdom. In 2012 I became a Certified Lactation Counselor, and in 2013 a HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator, offering both group and private childbirth education classes. I am a strong believer that birth unfolds naturally when a woman and her loved ones are in an environment where they feel safe, calm and supported.
