Marcy is a certified nurse-midwife in her 25th year as a midwife. Prior to this she worked for 8 years as an RN in areas as diverse as oncology, critical care, hospice and maternal-child health. These experiences within healthcare have informed in Marcy an honor and respect of the varied parts of the life cycle.
Her professional training took place at the San Francisco General/UCSF Midwifery Program, where she completed her training in 1988. She started her career in the Boston area in a hospital-based midwifery practice. Since 1993 she has been based in her hometown of New York, where she was privileged to work at the ‘grandmother’ of all free-standing birth centers, the Maternity Center Childbearing Center. She followed this as a midwife in the Elizabeth Seton Birth Center, where she ‘caught’ the first baby at its opening. She has provided homebirth services since 1997.
Marcy provides midwifery care for women and their families who live in the five boroughs, parts of NJ, and surrounding areas. Care is provided in women’s homes, with a primary focus on homebirth.
Heartfelt care is guided by the essential belief that ‘birth is something women do.’ Marcy believes in the body’s innate wisdom, and offers respect to cultural traditions, and to the love a woman can only feel when surrounded by the people of her choosing.
Marcy is the mother of two adult sons, and grandmother to three boys, the last of whom she ‘caught’ as he floated into water in a birth pool in his parents’ livingroom.
